ALIGN-T1D VALUES THE PROTECTION OF INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY AND IS COMMITTED TO THE PRIVACY OF THOSE WHO VISIT AND USE OUR WEBSITE. THIS DOCUMENT SETS FORTH THE PRIVACY POLICY (“PRIVACY POLICY”) FOR ALIGN-T1D (“WE”, “US” OR “OUR”) WEBSITE, ALIGNT1D.ORG (THE “SITE”). THIS PRIVACY POLICY GOVERNS THE MANNER IN WHICH ALIGN-T1D COLLECTS, USES, MAINTAINS, DISCLOSES, AND SECURES INFORMATION COLLECTED FROM USERS OF THE SITE, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EMAIL, TEXT, AND OTHER ELECTRONIC MESSAGES BETWEEN YOU AND THIS SITE. IT DOES NOT APPLY TO INFORMATION COLLECTED BY US OFFLINE OR THROUGH ANY OTHER MEANS. PLEASE READ THIS POLICY CAREFULLY TO UNDERSTAND OUR POLICIES AND PRACTICES REGARDING YOUR INFORMATION AND HOW WE WILL TREAT IT. We collect information about you when you visit the Site. When you register with the Site, make a donation, contact us, or otherwise interact with the Site, we may collect the following types of information:

- Organization or affiliation

- Credit card information (for online donations)
- Your personal connection to type 1 diabetes (T1D)
- Your preferences for receiving additional information, such as newsletters

We do not sell personal information and do not use personal information for targeted advertising.

ALIGN-T1D may share your information with vendors in limited circumstances to perform specific business functions on our behalf — for example, website hosting, analytics, donation processing, email marketing, and technology and security vendors. B. Governmental Entities
From time to time, ALIGN-T1D may be required to provide information in response to a valid court order, subpoena, government investigation, or as otherwise required by law, or if we reasonably believe that you have committed unlawful acts or acts that may endanger the health or safety of another person or the general public. ALIGN-T1D reserves the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we, in good faith, believe to be unlawful.
C. Business Transitions
In the event ALIGN-T1D goes through a business transition — such as a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets — users’ personally identifiable information may be part of the assets transferred.
D. Enforcement of Terms
We may also disclose your personal information to enforce or apply our Terms of Use or this Privacy Policy and any other agreements with you.
IV. Security
A. Encryption
We make reasonable efforts to protect information received from users of our Site from unauthorized use or disclosure. When you enter sensitive personal information on our Site, we encrypt it using secure socket layer (SSL) technology.
B. Health Information
ALIGN-T1D is not a healthcare provider. This Site is not intended for the submission or transmission of protected health information (“PHI”) or other sensitive medical information. Unless specifically requested through a secure process, please do not submit medical records, diagnoses, treatment information, or other sensitive health information through website contact forms or general email communications.
If sensitive health information is submitted inadvertently, we may take reasonable steps to delete, redact, or otherwise limit use of that information where appropriate.
C. Additional Safeguards
ALIGN-T1D maintains reasonable physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of any personally identifiable information you disclose to us. We limit access to your personally identifiable information to those employees and contractors who need to know such information to provide services to you. However, no transmission of data over the internet is guaranteed to be completely secure. As such, ALIGN-T1D cannot ensure or warrant the security of any personally identifiable information you transmit to us.

Our Site may contain links or references to other parties’ websites. ALIGN-T1D is not responsible for the privacy or other practices of any such outside websites. We encourage our users to read the applicable privacy policies and terms of use of each such website before deciding to visit them.
VI. Retention
We store information about you only for as long as necessary depending on the reason for your submission, and we collect no more information about you than is reasonably necessary to provide the services for which the information is collected. We determine the retention period for information we collect based on: (1) the length of time needed to achieve the purposes for which it was collected; (2) any legal or regulatory requirements applicable to such information; (3) internal operational needs; or (4) any need for the information based on actual or anticipated litigation or investigation.
Contact form submissions are generally retained for up to one year unless a longer retention period is required by law, security needs, or legitimate organizational purposes.
VII. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)
We are committed to complying with applicable laws and requirements intended to protect children, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Use of the Site by anyone under the age of 13 is prohibited. Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to visit or otherwise use the Site.

IX. International Users & Global Privacy Rights
ALIGN-T1D is a global initiative. We welcome visitors, donors, grant applicants, and partners from anywhere in the world. Information collected through this Site is processed and stored in the United States, which may have different privacy protections than those available in your country of residence. By using the Site and providing information through it, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

XI. Nevada
Residents of the State of Nevada have the right to opt out of the sale of certain pieces of their information to third parties. Currently, we do not engage in “sales” of your information as that term is defined under Nevada law. Our Privacy Policy is intended to provide you with a safe and secure experience. We reserve the right to change, modify, add, or remove portions of this Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice, at our sole discretion.
